The Interior Ministry Informed that 53 year old K.A., from the village of Bogovinje, who killed Mayor Hazbi Idrizi on Friday evening, has also succumbed to the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Idrizi and K.A., identified in some media outlets as a former employee of the rural municipality, got into an argument in a restaurant close to the municipal building. At one point, K.A. opened fire on the 58 year old Mayor, injuring him badly. Idrizi was admitted to the Tetovo General Hospital, where he died. K.A. then shot himself in the head, and was hospitalized, only to die in the Skopje Emergency Clinic center.
Idrizi was elected on the ticket of the DUI party, which represents mainly ethnic Albanians and was affected by desertions and loss of votes during the on-going political crisis. So far there are no reports whether the incident was politically motivated. Idrizi served as Mayor of Bogovinje between 2000 and 2005, and was re-elected in 2009 and 2013.
