DPNE received a total of eight nominations for President. Party delegates are expected to choose between the eight, whose names were not revealed today, but will be voted on at the convention scheduled for February 16th.
So far only State Department rep and neocon Vladimir Gjorcev publicly announced that he is seeking the nomination. Law professor and long time Soros emplpoyee Gordana Siljanovska was asked to run by a group of 30 professor, and she said she will consider the idea. A failed candidate for party leader Filip Petrovski also said that he will ask the party to endorse his bid. The joke in the Macedonian capital is that Petrovski is well suited for president as he has slapped Gjorcev on at least 5 occasions during the past decade, particularly when the two were in their early 20’s and part of DPNE’s Youth ogranization.
The deadline for receiving nominations has ended, but the party expects that a few more may arrive via mail. By Tuesday, the full list of nominations will be revealed, and they will have the chance to present their programs through the party committees until February 16th.
The presidential elections are expected in late April.
