Turkish president Recep Erdogan is a well known Fenerbahce supporter. Not surprisingly, he was seen at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium and was warmly welcomed by the 45,000 strong crowd.

Once Vardar tied the result in the 80th minute, Erdogan got up and left. It became clear that Fenerbahce had an impossible mission as they needed to score 3 goals in 10 minutes to qualify for the group stages.

In addition, around 10-15,000 fans headed to the exits with 7-8 minutes to go. These fans and Erdogan never saw the winning goal by Gligorov in the 91’st minute to complete Vardar’s impressive qualifying campaign.
