While some Western European leaders with vested interest congratulated Joe Biden for being media’s ‘projected’ winner of the US presidential elections, several leaders in Eastern Europe have opted to wait until the elections are truly over.
Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, who quickly welcomed President Trump’s significant lead on the eve of the elections, before voting was suspended and Biden miraculously emerged on top the next morning, observed that it is strange how the parties who advised him to be cautious on Tuesday evening are now declaring Biden the winner even as votes are still counted.
Interesting. Appeals are submitted to the US courts and the results are narrow. The courts still haven’t started deliberating. Still main US media outlets (and not some official institution) are declaring a winner. Congratulations come from all sides. That is the rule of law, Jansa ironically noted, ending his tweet with a smiley face.
Polish President Andrzej Duda congratulated Biden on being a projected winner, but added that he awaits the vote in the Electoral College. And Hungary, who like Poland was accused by Biden of being a totalitarian state, did not offer congratulations.
