The Macedonian Anti-monopoly Committee slapped fines of 5,8 million EUR to the Skopje Brewery and 2,7 million EUR to the Prilep Brewery for restricting market access.

Both companies were pushing distributors that determined the end price of the product, which prevented the distributors from forming their own prices.

Such contracts were recorded beginning with 2012 in the case of the Skopje Brewery, and 2010 with the Prilep Brewery, which also signed contracts restricting distributors from selling other products.

“These clauses in the contracts prevented the free market from determining the prices. It is strictly banned to have vertical limitations in the distribution chain under the Law on protection of competition”, the Commission informed.
