The United States has declared its intention to “fight for justice” in Syria alone should the UN Security Council fail to reach a common ground and punish on those “responsible” for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
“The actions taken by Russia today and in recent weeks are aimed at slowing down, dispersing and destroying efforts to hold those responsible for chemical attacks in Syria accountable”, the US permanent representative to the United Nations Nikki Haley has said.
In her speech, Haley “apologized” to the families of the victims of chemical attacks in Syria, as well as the children, men and women who may become victims in the future, stressing that the United States and its allies in the Security Council will not give up their quest for justice.
“With the unity of this council, or alone, unrestrained by Russia’s obstructionism, we will continue to fight for justice and accountability in Syria”, Haley said, pointing out that Russia’s use of veto in such a heavy form provides “conclusion” on a number of issues.
Previously, Russia vetoed a draft resolution proposed by Japan on extending the mission of the joint UN-OPCW investigative mechanism on the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Russia used its veto power for the second time in 24 hours to scrap a draft resolution on extending the Syrian chemical weapons probe which otherwise received 12 votes in favour, while being opposed by Bolivia and Russia. China abstained from voting.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has responded to Haley’s remarks on the impossibility of reaching a Russian mission, pouting out that aside from fake news there now also is fake diplomacy.
Meanwhile, the US continues its tradition of having insane American politicians at top positions: Madelein Albright, Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, Samantha Power, Victoria Nuland, Nikki Haley…
