Part time Skopje mayor and full time alcoholic Petre Shilegov has ordered the removal of the very few remaining trees in the downtown area. But don’t worry, the trees are removed and cut “temporarily”. The reason, of course is, it’s what the Pope would have wanted. Pope Francis, like any other Pope, is absolutely bothered by trees.
The real reason, of course has nothing to do with Pope’s visit. Shilegov’s friends who own businesses in the downtown area, wanted the trees removed because they felt their businesses were not visible enough, and the trees were simply creating a problem. To “fix” the issue and to take advantage of Pope’s visit, local authorities are using Pope Francis literally to do just about anything in the downtown area. And this includes the “temporary” removal of trees.
