US State Department freaks out after Hungary targets “NGOs”

The US Department of State has warned the Hungarian government against adopting the law requiring that NGOs receiving more than $26,000 in donations from abroad be registered as “foreign-supported organizations.”

Hungary will take another step away from NATO and EU principles if it signs a measure which imposes limitations on foreign-funded non-governmental organizations, the US Department of State said in a press release.

“If signed into law, this would be another step away from Hungary’s commitments to uphold the principles and values that are central to the EU and NATO,” the release stated on Monday.

On June 14, the Hungarian parliament passed legislation requiring that NGOs receiving more than $26,000 in donations from abroad be registered as “foreign-supported organizations.” The law stipulates sanctions to be imposed on the NGOs not abiding by the rule.

The legislation would disadvantage Hungarian civil society by blocking its ability to “organize and address concerns in a legitimate and democratic manner,” the release added.

The US through its State Department and USAid are well known for spending billions of dollars on so called “NGOs” who are used to influence election outcomes in dozens of countries around the world.

They call them NGOs – non-government organizations – but they are mainly a foreign government (U.S.) using them to manipulate, pressure and change the host governments.

I love what Hungary is doing and wish it would go even further. Wish other countries would do the same, though some aren’t as strong and secure as Hungary. I think the west is afraid to punish Hungary, as it would make it move away and work even more with Russia. They can’t bully it as they do other countries because Hungary doesn’t really have a significant separatist minority or Muslim population which the west can use as a threatening tool. Hungary is not so vulnerable nor weak and it could more harm the western projects in the region by moving out of their control.
