A goal in the final seconds from HB Nantes star Kiril Lazarov won Macedonia both points in a dramatic ending to their game with Ukraine in Vienna.
Having led by five goals midway through the second half, the Macedonians were cruising but twice in a typical Macedonian fashion they handed the Ukrainians a way back into the match.
And a first draw of EHF EURO 2020 looked a distinct possibly when Ukraine rallied to level the game deep into the second period – only for right back Lazarov to win it with the very last throw of the match.
- Macedonia’s Kiril Lazarov top-scored with eight goals
- Macedonian keeper Nikola Mitrevski made 15 saves for a 38 per cent save ratio and was the key player for Macedonia’s win
- Ukraine substitute Ievgen Zhuk struck three second-half goals from four shots
- Vladyslav Ostroushko hit four goals in the final minutes
