Macedonia holds to its strategic goals, championing friendly relations, cooperation and mutual respect, President Gjorge Ivanov told Wednesday in Moscow to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Ivanov said the talks with Putin were friendly and constructive, addressing the developments in Macedonia and the Balkans, bilateral economic cooperation, the church…
‘The political crisis in Macedonia for the last two and a half years has obstructed the work of the Macedonian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission, which I hope will be restored after the formation of a new government and continue to work on the positive trends of the economic cooperation,’ Ivanov said.
The talks, Ivanov said, also tackled the developments in the Balkans and Middle East.
‘We closely follow developments in your country, and we most certainly wish you success in ensuring that Macedonia’s internal political situation develops in accordance with the Constitution and democratic procedure. I am sure that your experience, influence and authority will be of help here,’ Putin told Ivanov at the meeting according to Kremlin’s press release.
Yesterday, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia presented in the ‘Patriarch Alexy II’ award to Macedonia’s President Gjorge Ivanov for his efforts to strengthen the role of religion in society, promote Christian values and religious tolerance, as well as improve the ties between Orthodox nations.
The prize of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations (IFUOCN) are awarded annually to the heads of states, governments and parliaments, dignitaries of the Orthodox Churches, and major public figures for their contribution to the strengthening of economic and political ties among the states formed in the context of Eastern Christian tradition and for the consolidation of noble standards of Christian morals in the life of Orthodox community.
