Judge Ljubinka Basevska sentenced the driver Jordan Gjorgjiev to three years in prison over the car accident near “City Mall”, in which 24-year-old Viktorija Nikolova from Radovis died. He is also banned from driving a Category B vehicle for a period of three years from the verdict.

The verdict is not final and the parties have the right to appeal to the Court of Appeals in Skopje for the prison length.

Judge Ljubinka Basevska expressed deep condolences to the family members of the victim who were not personally present at the sentencing.

Gjorgjiev, who pleaded guilty last week, was prosecuted for serious offenses against the safety of people and property in traffic. He ran a red light and drove twice over the allowable speed limit.

To give you an example of the insane discrepancies in Macedonian judicial system. A man was sentenced to 5 years for stealing kebabs, a 75 year old person was sentenced to 4 years in prison for pulling Sekerinska’s hair, and 3 years in prison for driving like a maniac and running over a pedestrian.
