DM Radmila Sekerinska held talks Tuesday with Austrian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Othmar Commenda, who is paying an official visit to Macedonia on June 27-28.

At the meeting, Sekerinska commended the bilateral cooperation, in particular Austria’s support of Macedonia’s efforts to curb the migrant inflow on its southern border, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

The migrant crisis that hit Europe has shown that the region is of great importance for the security of the entire continent, Sekerinska said.

Resuming of the bilateral military cooperation is rather significant for Macedonia’s Ministry of Defense, Sekerinska said.

She also asked for Austria’s support of Macedonia’s crisis management institutions.

Austria, Commenda said, has a developed crisis management system and is ready to share know-how and experiences with Macedonia in this sphere.

On Wednesday, Austrian and Macedonian delegations will hold official talks, focusing on the ARM transformation and structure, its contribution in international peacekeeping missions, its role in the migrant crisis management and enhancement of bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
