Albanian President Ilir Meta threatened to use the army and stop Prime Minister Edi Rama from holding municipal elections on June 30th.
Meta declared the elections invalid, but Rama is ignoring his decision and wants to go ahead with the vote, even though the main opposition parties also reject the elections and demand the creation of a technical Government instead.
Now Meta reminded Rama that he is the supreme commander of the army and said that he will resort to using it if the elections take place.
Meanwhile, in some opposition strongholds, like Bajram Curi in the north of the country, protesters have declared that they will prevent the holding of the elections. In one voting district, the polling stations were broken into by protesters and the ballots set on fire.
