Austria’s Leading Party Wants to Drop Kosovo’s Recognition

The Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), the leading party in the recent EU elections, has submitted a draft resolution to the Austrian Parliament demanding that the Parliament declare itself against the recognition of Kosovo.

“‘Kosovo’ was part of Serbia and, contrary to international law, was separated from Serbia through NATO bombing in 1999. To this day, most countries have not recognized it as independent. By recognizing so-called Kosovo, the United States and European countries have not only violated and trampled upon the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia but also UN Resolution 1244, which guarantees Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

– This emphasis is underscored in the submitted draft resolution. The FPÖ won the June EU elections and leads in polls ahead of Austria’s 29 September 2024 legislative elections.
