Genius monkey sharpens rock before smashing it against zoo window in escape bid

A genius monkey has been filmed picking up a rock and shattering his zoo enclosure window.

The footage – taken on August 20 at the Zhengzhou Zoo in China’s Henan Province – shows the Colombian white-faced capuchin lifting up the sizeable rock above its head.

With the pointy end facing the window, it then smashes it against the surface.

But the creature doesn’t appear to use enough force so has another go.

And this time, the window shatters into pieces as the monkey darts from the scene.

Visitors watching the scenes unfold gasp in shock as the glass boundary cracks and the monkey itself also runs in the opposite direction.

“The monkey was sharpening the stone, then it started hitting it on the glass,” Mr Wang, an onlooker, recalled.

“The monkey scared itself away, but it came back to take another look and even touched it.”

Zhengzhou Zoo staff member Tian Shuliao told local media: “This monkey is unlike other monkeys.
